I can’t believe 6 months have gone by already since I last blogged! So much has happened in the last 6 months…where do I begin? Let’s see, in that time I quit my job, went on a 2 week holiday to Taiwan and Bali and discovered stinky tofu in Taipei 😷 (there’s a reason it’s called “stinky”), saw the most exotic sunsets I’ve ever seen in Bali, started a new job, and last but certainly not the least, had my appendix removed while on “vacation work” visiting family in the US! Needless to say there’s never a dull moment in my life!
I’m now home from the hospital and speaking of hospitals, greys anatomy has got nothing compared with the drama I encountered at the hospital in the form of a bedside mate who happened to be a prisoner flanked by cops with guns, or the woman who repeatedly requested for the remainder of her urine sample and seemed to think they were up to no good with it, security had to walk her out of the building! Like I said, never a dull moment 😉. American hospitals are quite the experience but nonetheless I was impressed! Oh, by the way whoever invented general anesthesia is a genius but that is also some freaky stuff! One minute I was talking to the anesthesiologist and staring up at the flood lights beaming down my abdomen and the next minute (or more like an hour later), I was being woken up by the nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit aka PACU, post surgery, extremely groggy and completely incoherent as told by my sister. Mind you, I did not appreciate being woken from that deep slumber of nothingness in which it seemed like I ceased to exist. What intrigues me most is my inability to recall anything whatsoever during that time! Of course I know that no memory formed because I was in a deep state of slumber but the fact that all this activity took place without any of my knowledge on my own body is almost mind boggling to me! No wonder terms such as invasive exist in the world of surgery. The reality is that my surgery was minimally invasive because it was done laparoscopically but yet why do I feel like my body was invaded? Little holes made in my abdominal area, or the tubes put down my throat to help me breath, my torso washed with disinfectant and ECG stickers or whatever they’re called monitoring my heart. But yet, I’m grateful, so grateful to be alive! Grateful for the surgeon who skillfully wove his surgical tools through my abdomen to find that pesky little thing called the appendix, who needs one anyway?! I’m grateful for the nurse Roweena who took care of me through her endless giggles, or the nurse’s assistant Victoria who helped clean me up when I was too weak to shower. I wish I could tell them how much I appreciated them and what they did for me. To them it may have just been a part of doing their jobs, but to me it was a message that said “I care about your life and health”.
So if you’ve ever been a visitor to this blog and wondering what happened, there’s my life story over the last 6 months condensed into about 500 words. I have missed blogging and I hope that I will be able to continue to pen more frequently even as life happens.
